ISC2 Names Brionne Dawson Executive Vice President for Advocacy
ISC2 has appointed Brionne Dawson as Executive Vice President for Advocacy, announced September 28 by ISC2 headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia. She will lead ISC2's global advocacy work with policymakers, industry leaders, members and partners, sit on the Executive Leadership Team and report directly to CEO Scott Beale.
Who is Brionne Dawson
Dawson brings more than two decades of experience in technology policy, government affairs, international relations and commercial diplomacy. Most recently she was at Google, where she led international government affairs for emerging markets across more than 120 countries and later served as Head of Middle East and Africa.
Her earlier roles include Senior Advisor in the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs, Senior Director at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's U.S.-Africa Business Center, and leadership positions at USAID and the National Democratic Institute. She holds a B.S. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and an M.A. in International Business from the Fletcher School at Tufts, plus certifications in AI governance and agentic AI.
What ISC2 advocacy will focus on
Practical pathways into cybersecurity careers
Skills-based credentials and professional growth
Bringing practitioner perspectives into AI security policy
A policy environment that supports a secure digital economy
In ISC2's announcement, Dawson said that when the rules governing AI are written, "the professionals responsible for securing these systems must have a seat at the table."
What it means for NOVA members
Much of the policy conversation she will be shaping happens right here in the national capital region. For members who work in federal, defense and critical infrastructure security, a stronger ISC2 advocacy voice on AI and workforce policy is a direct line between day-to-day practice and the rules that govern it. Watch for opportunities to weigh in through ISC2 and through the chapter.
